The affects of heartbreak

The sad tale of Miss Havisham all began when she was abandoned on the day of her wedding by the man that she loved, her heart was broken so badly that it was unfixable which resulted in the rest of her life ending up the way it was. I decided to look into heart break to see how it affects peoples mental and physical health.

Eating habits:
Eating habits can turn two ways when dealing with a loss or grief, some people are so distraught they cannot bring themselves to eat at all and some people over eat which is what we like to call comfort eating. This can lead to unnecessary weight loss and a lack of key nutrition or weight gain which can also over time cause health problems.

Miss Havisham stopped looking after herself after her betrayal and appeared as if she rarely ate and if so not good food of nutritional value. Lack of nutrition and proper eating habits can cause the following effects and problems:
  • Pallor - pale skin
  • Fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Issues breathing
  • Hair loss
  • Light headedness
  • Constipation
  • Heart palpitations
  • Feeling faint and fainting
  • Depression
  • Poor concentration
  • Menstrual issues
  • Numbness of joints
 Sleeping habits:
Some people take to sleeping all day as they almost want to sleep away the pain to avoid continuing with life normally, and others don't sleep enough. Both of these are really bad for you and can contribute to depression and loss of energy making it even harder to continue with life normally and get better.

Immune system:
Heart break can aggitate the immune system causing cell-damaging inflammation and starts to weaken so you may become ill or run-down causing things like illness and cold sores.

Hair loss:
Stress can cause the hair follicles to enter a state called telogen effluvium in which your hair can stop growing and begin to fall out.

Skin:
Unbalanced hormones can create a build up of oil beneath the skin which causes acne.

In the pictures below we can see that this interpretation of Miss Havisham appears to have some of the issues stated above including pallor, underweight, weakness and fatigue.
